Dear Parents and Children,
Happy New Year to you all! I hope everyone is keeping safe and enjoyed the extended Christmas break before we return to remote teaching and learning on Monday 11th January. We know that this is a difficult time for families and every situation is different. We hope to support learning in all situations over the coming weeks. If anyone has any concerns or general queries please contact me by email - infantscappyns@gmail.com. We will set out a weekly plan here on the school website for the week ahead with our main focus on English, Irish and Maths. This will be supplemented with teaching videos and activities which will be posted daily to seesaw. The weekly plan suggests what work parents should upload to seesaw each week. This is only a suggestion and parents shouldn't feel pressure to get any or all of it uploaded in a given week. Mrs Burke teaches Senior Infant literacy in our Early Intervention Programme and will be assigning literacy work to Senior Infants. Please contact Mrs Burke if Senior Infant parents have any Literacy queries - lburkecappyns@gmail.com
If your child attends learning support with Mrs Burke and you would like to contact her please email her on the above address. Login details for our zoom meeting scheduled for Tuesday will be available on seesaw.
Kind Regards,
Fiona

Science Week 2020
We had lots of fun during science week this year. We loved being scientists for the week. We experimented with skittles and warm water. We arranged the skittles on a plate and added warm water. Wow....a rainbow appeared! It was beautiful. We filled rubber gloves with water, put them in the freezer and waited to see what happened! When they were frozen we put them on our sensory table for children to see what they felt like. We went on a senses field walk where we had to use our sense of sight, hearing, smell and touch. We had a visit from some 6th class scientists who did some experiments for our class. We loved watching what happened when they added alka-seltzer to a glass of oil and food coloring.
November Aistear - The Doctor's Surgery
Take a look at our pictures below of the children working in the Doctor's Surgery this month. We learned new vocabulary for example: surgery, medicine, prescription, receptionist, temperature, examine, stethoscope and patient. The list goes on and on!! The doctors worked so hard checking patients temperatures and even had to send some people to hospital in the ambulance. They took X-rays and filled out prescriptions for their patients. The receptionists were very busy answering the phone and made sure that nobody was too long waiting in the waiting room.
The children in the Construction area were busy building doctor's surgeries, hospitals and roads so that the ambulance could get to the hospital safely. The children were busy in the Creative area cutting and making things with play doh. The children in the Small World area were busy playing in the town and driving their mini me to the hospital. Bingo and Roll the dice coloring games were a big hit in the Games with rules area.
Working on our fine motor skills this month........
Maths fun.........
In Maths we compared objects according to length, width, height and weight in class. We had lots of fun exploring capacity outside. We did a lot of work on number formation. We revised our number rhymes for homework.

Sequencing fun with story stones....
Autumn Quiz Champions
Fun on the yard ....
Check out our Art displays ....
Artists at work.....
Gymnastics in the hall.....
Our September Walkabout
Let's see what we have been getting up to in Aistear this week........
It was been another busy week in the Aistear room. We had lots of fun playing "snap" and "snakes and ladders" at the games with rules table. We are very good at taking turns and rolling the dice! We practiced our cutting and sticking skills at the creative table and we can't wait to get creative again next week. Playing with our "mini me" in the construction area was great fun. We used our imaginations and our "mini me" had lots of fun too!
Autumn is here.......
We have been chatting about the seasons in class. We are learning all about Autumn and having lots of fun dressing our weather bear in the mornings. Take a look at our Autumn trees. Some children brought in Autumn leaves from home. We used Autumn colours to paint the leaves with our fingers!
Taking a break for lunch.......
More fun outside.......
Infants - Ms Egan
Dear Parents,
Welcome to this page where we will share pictures of what we are getting up to in Junior and Senior Infants.
I would like to welcome the new Junior Infant children along with this years new parents to our school. The Infants got off to a fantastic start making new friends and playing. They had a very busy two weeks and will have their first full day (finishing at 1.30) on Monday 14th September.
The Senior Infants are delighted to be back and have been busy catching up with their friends and playing. They loved spending time in our new outdoor play area. They have been very busy in our new mud kitchen and digging up our new planting beds. I would like to thank Niall and Shane Lawless for making our fabulous mud kitchen and outdoor tables. The new Aistear room has also been a big hit since we came back! The children were very excited to see all the new toys and resources. If any parents have old toys that they would like to donate to the school we would be delighted to take them. I have added an Aistear wish list below if anyone wants to take a look.
A reminder that homework will not start until after the mid-term break. If your child attends Mrs Burke her email is lburkecappyns@gmail.com
I would like to thank parents for their cooperation as we settle back into this school year.
Many thanks,
Fiona
