School Tour 2019
This year Junior infants to 2nd class went to Loughwell Pet Farm, Moycullen. This was a fabulous day and a huge thanks to Loughwell for their organisation and cooperation on June 10th. All children had a wonderful time. We got to see a variety of animals and played with lots of different things over the course of the day. There was a huge slide which was a hit with everyone and the outdoor play areas were topped off by wonderful weather that we got. We will certainly not be forgettin the school tour 2019 any time soon!

Planting
With the good weather, we are making the most of it by filling our flower bed with beautiful flowers. Our Junior and Senior infants were so helpful, assisting in the planting. If you want to know the functions of the; roots, stem, leaf or petals, don't be shy and ask us because we know everything there is to know about plants.

Summer Art
We decided to take out art lessons outdoors this week. We looked at a flower and all the important features of it necessary for our drawing. We went outside to experience the elements that a flower lives in and used chalk on black paper to draw a flower. We had to include the grass and the sky to our picture also. We used our fingers to spread some of the chalk as well as applying different pressure to our chalk to make it softer or harder on display. I think that you will agree that we did a super job :)

The Pizza Parlour
We ate lots of eggs over Easter so we came back to school and said that we would just eat pizza to take over our cravings. This month, we are learning about all of the people who are involved in the success of a pizza parlour; chef (pizzaiolo), waiters, waitresses and customers. We also learned about making dough and the variety of toppings that can make a supreme pizza. Ask us about olives, jalapenos, pepperoni, salami, cheese, sausage, vegetarian, pineapple and many more... We love acting, washing, playing with playdough and so much more during our Aistear sessions.

History
Mr. Garvey brought our Junior and Senior infants to the past to show how life was long ago. With a different means to light, transport and the most basic things we take for granted the children couldn't believe how life was in the past. We also got to see how advancements have made some things look more appealing in todays world such as match day programmes, hats and clothes, lamps and much more!

Literacy - sounds and blending
We have made so much progress in Junior Infants with learning our sounds, letters, making words and starting to read through blending and word recognition. Here we are creating words from the sounds that we have learned since September!

Modern vs Old
Over the past week, we have been learning the difference between modern and old in history lessons. We see the transformation of the world in a short time and we couldn't believe that people used to live without electricity and that there was a time when planes were non existent. During Art this week, we used our creative minds and worked collaboratively to make modern houses. We constructed them from recycled materials and boxes. Let us know if you need any architects or builders...

Science behind the umbrella
Today, we learned about waterproof by doing experiments. We guessed whether items would be waterproof or not and then we carried out the investigation to check if we were correct or not. We now know why umbrellas are not made from newspaper and why we don't wear wellington's made from wool in the puddles!

Aistear - The Airport
This month we are learning all about Airports! We have our tickets and passports ready to board! We are also designing planes by talking about the different parts of a plane and drawing our design in a group. We are designing our own passports, getting ready to get to the check in and the Baggage claim stations, but we are not sure if the security person is willing to accept our 'school made' passports. We are also constructing airports from blocks, ensuring to include our runway and waiting area. We have lots of fun and use lots of big words that we need in the airport.

The Rainbow Fish
We learned about The Rainbow Fish in English when we were making connections between this story and; other texts, our lives and things in the world. We had lots of connections because the rainbow fish made everybody happy by sharing and we are never shy of helping and sharing in this classroom!
We then did Art where we printed the fish in lots of different colours before adding the finishing touch of shimmering scales to each fish to make it a real 'Rainbow fish'.

Halloween fun!
All of our Junior and Senior Infants children dressed up for Halloween and we had a fun day in school! Have a look at some of our amazing costumes. Thanks to all the Mums and Dads who helped us get ready...
Our new topic in Aistear for November was 'At the Restaurant'.
We enjoyed learning about lots of food from around the world, making our own sandwiches, setting up and playing in our own classroom restaurant and even had a party to celebrate being chefs and wear our cool chef hats! Miss Jennings helped us with all of our hard work!
