Aistear - The Pet Shop
This months Aistear was "The Pet Shop". We had lots of fun. All the children brought in their own pets - snakes, rabbits, fish, dogs, cats, monkeys and lots more animals. We made beds for all the pets. We told the customers how to look after the pets and what they needed to buy for them. They also learned about pet shops and all the different jobs that have to be done each day when working with animals.
The children working in the shop knew that the shop needed to open at 9 0' clock and close at 5 0' clock. We were learning about length in Maths so we used our snakes during Maths. We sorted all the animals into two groups, the zoo animals and the pets. We also made shopping lists of all the things we needed to buy for our pets. In the Creative area we coloured in pictures of pets and cut them out. We stuck these pictures into our scrapbooks. We played with the farm and the village in Small World. In the Construction area we built huge shopping centres with pet shops. One group built a zoo. We really enjoyed Aistear this month.
Sow & Grow in our classroom...

Primary schools across Ireland can now avail of Sow and Grow packs, so we planted our own fruit and veg this Spring. It’s all part of the Sow and Grow campaign which aims to show children just how easy it can be to grow their own fruit and veg.The children in Junior & Senior Infants got their hands dirty and planted cress, peas and spinach. We took care of our plants and watched them grow. Well done to our star grower!
We had lots of fun looking for eggs around the school. Some eggs were hiding on the branches of the trees and beside the daffodils. We hope we found them all. We had an Easter raffle for an Easter egg and had lots of treats.
Aistear - "People who help us"
The children worked in the Dentist's Surgery this month. We learned lots of new vocabulary. The dentist worked so hard checking patients teeth and told them how to take care of their teeth. The receptionist was busy answering the phone and made sure that nobody was too long waiting in the waiting room.
We talked about healthy and unhealthy foods. We made these foods with play doh. We played with the fire station and the farm in small world. We talked about all the people who help us and drew pictures of them. Two children visited the dentist this month and told the class about their visit. They brought in a toothbrush, a tooth and a picture of their teeth after their visit to the dentist.
