Grow in Love - The Church & A Baby's Baptism

Before our visit to the church we discussed the different features of our church in Cappataggle. We talked about things we would find in a church.  (Paschal candle, stained glass windows, bell, baptisimal font, crucifix and a bible) We listened to stories from Grow in love about the church and the work that a priest does.

A visit to the church....

Aistear - The Garda Station

We had lots of fun this month in Aistear. We set up a Garda Station in the classroom. We put on our Garda jackets and used our hand cuffs. We were very busy taking finger prints and taking statements. In the creative area we made traffic lights, walkie talkies and patrol cars. We learned lots of new words and drew lots of pictures.

Aistear - At The Airport......

Everyone is very excited about getting our Summer holidays. We talked about going on holidays and some children are going on a plane this Summer. We set up an airport in the classroom. We were very busy checking our boarding passes and packing our bags. Security was very strict and checked our bags. One of us even had to take off our shoes before we went through security. We set up chairs in our classroom and made our own plane. In the creative area we made passports and planes. In the games with rules we played lots of games.

Aistear - The Garden Centre

This month in Aistear we have been learning about the garden centre. The children have been busy selling plants and flowers. We learned the names of lots of flowers. We drew pictures of the flowers and made posters for the shop. We had lots of fun with compost and gardening tools in the sand box.
In the creative area we made beautiful flowers with seeds and paint. It was lots of fun. In the construction area we built a huge garden centre with a car park for our customers. We planted cress, peas and carrots. We took care of these and watched them grow. Some of us want to work in a garden centre when we grow up.

Thanks Ms. Dillane.....

Thanks to Hibernia student Ms. Emer Dillane for all her hard work in the Infant classroom over the last few weeks. We look forward to seeing you back in the school from time to time.

Aistear - The Clothes Shop

The Zoo - Aistear

We loved playing in the Zoo last week. The zookeepers opened the zoo at 9 O' Clock in the morning. We were very busy looking after the animals. We had to feed them and give them water every day. When the animals got tired we had to put the animals to bed in their cages. When the customers came to the booking desk we gave them their tickets and their receipt. We counted the money in the till at the end of the day.
In the sand box station the children made waterholes for the animals to drink from. They build fences and sorted out all the zoo animals. In the games with rules station we played a phonics game where we had to guess the initial sound of each animal. We rolled the dice and had to describe the animal and the rest of the group had to guess which animal it was. We made snakes out of paper plates, wiggly eyes, felt and recycled coloured paper.

Aistear - St. Patrick's Day

We had lots of fun in Aistear this week. We had our very own St. Patrick's Day parade. We played Irish music and danced to it. We brought in our own instruments and played them in the parade. We had lots of fun with our Irish flags and hats.
In maths we used green play doh to make our numbers. In the creative area we used our hand prints to paint rainbows and pots of gold. We talked about the colours of the rainbow and what you find under the rainbow. We looked out the window every day this week but didn't see a rainbow. In the games with rules area we played St. Patrick's Day bingo and learned lots of new words.

The Farm - Aistear

We played in the Supermarket. We sorted all the fruit and vegetables that come from the farm. Jane collected 6 fresh eggs from her hen house. We sold them in the Supermarket. Jane also brought in milk cartons to sell in our Supermarket. In the construction station the children built huge farm yards. One group even built a milking parlour.
In the Creative station we coloured in the animals and farmers before cutting them out. We made sheep and clouds out of cotton wool. It was lots of fun.
In Small World we played with farm animal, tractors and bales. We made fields and built fences. We sorted all the animals and counted how many animals were in each field. We made colourful hens using colourful feathers and straw.

A visit from Farmer John Joe.....

As we are learning all about the farm and Spring in Aistear, Farmer John Joe came to visit. He told us all about his animals and the work he does on the farm. He brought one of his lambs with him. We all got to pet him and play with him. We loved the lamb and some of us wanted to keep him in our classroom. The lambs Mammy was outside in the trailer and we knew she would be very lonely if we kept him so we said good bye to the baby lamb and said we watch it for him in the Cappataggle fields.

Houses & Homes Aistear

We have been learning about houses and homes in Aistear this month. We listened to lots of stories about houses and homes. Our favourites were "The Three Little Pigs" & "A Squash & A Squeeze". In Construction we built bungalows, two-storey houses, flats and one group even built a caravan park. In the Small World station we played with our new playhouse from Aldi. It has a kitchen , a bathroom, a sitting room, bedrooms and a hall. We sorted out all the furniture and put the furniture in the right rooms.
In the Creative station we cut out shapes to make houses and homes. We are very good at cutting and sticking. We put our creative work up on the classroom wall for everyone to see. It was lots of fun. We also used different coloured play dough to make houses. In the games with rules station we matched pictures to words. We learned lots of new words.

Spring is here........

Picture

Spring is finally here. We love dressing the weather bear in the mornings. We look out the window to see what the weather is like. If it is a wet day we put a rain coat on him and give him an umbrella. If it is a sunny day we give him sunglasses and his swimming togs. It is lots of fun.

Aistear - Santa's Workshop

Santa's Workshop went down a treat in Aistear in December. At the Role-Play Station, the elves were very busy wrapping & packing toys into boxes and into Santa's sack. Some elves were busy picking suitable toys for Cappataggle from the toy catalogues.  At the Writing Station, the children were busy writing the children's names on the "Good" List! The children in The Construction area built Santa's house in the North Pole and little homes for all of Santa's elves.
