I've given one prime activity each day for the children to focus on and put their effort into. I know that many of the children are growing tired as we near the end of the year. You can of course continue with other activities such as handwriting, P.E. with Joe, RTE School on TV and lots of reading.

A message from our Bishop re. Confirmation
Bishop Michael is proposing the following:
(1) That we begin a rescheduling process in September 2020
(2) That any celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation in Autumn 2020 would be proceeded by three short sessions of preparation – the how, what and who of these will need to be worked out.
(3) That each Child for confirmation now writes to their parish priest to enrol for confirmation enclosing the attached form.
(4) That all children for confirmation be invited to join me online at www.loughreacathedral.ie for a Special Mass for them and their families at 12noon on Pentecost Sunday, 31st May 2020

Don't forget that May is the month of Our Lady. Many people would visit Clonfert during the month. Try to include a Hail Mary in your prayers or learn the Memorare, which is a beautiful prayer.

Week Beginning April 20th: The below file contains activities for each day next week. I will add the Powerpoints and activities on our class page each morning for any child who is not using Seesaw.
If however your child IS using Seesaw I will give them each days work and all PowerPoints and activities through the app. This means you won't need to use the information here. The children will be able to follow their daily tasks in their account.
Continue to do work and activities that suits your own situation and take advantage of the wonderful weather.
Please email principalcappataggle@outlook.com if you have any questions.

Parents, please see suggested work in the downloadable file below. There is quite a lot for one week so feel free to use as you feel appropriate - perhaps even set some aside for over the Easter break. Feel free to continue too with previously suggested activities and if using Seesaw your child can upload anything they've done to their online scrapbook.

Parents, next week I would like to trial using SEESAW with the children in 5th and 6th for Home Learning. We have used it quite a bit in class already. In order to use SEESAW each child will have an individual Home Learning Code. Please email me at principalcappataggle@outlook.com and request your child's code. I will then send on instructions explaining how the children can access SEESAW. It works on desktop, iphone and android devices. Any questions about it please don't hesitate to ask.

Some of our school councilors spoke to parents about Cappataggle N.S. and gave a tour of our lovely school as part of our Enrolment Evening for new entrants.
Children enjoying their first Gymnastics Lesson
Operation Transformation
The children have been leading activities in the hall this week, working out for ten minutes at 2pm. This warms up our bodies and our brains. Each day a different child leads us with exercises and game ideas. Here is Daniel taking charge.
We made Christmas decorations in class this morning with the help of Erin's mum. These will be for sale at our Christmas Fair in the school hall.
Christmas Craft Evening
Many thanks to all the parents who came to help us with our Christmas Crafts. We decoupaged bottles and began adding the finishing touches to our Christmas Pinatas. We look forward to seeing these fly off the shelves at our Christmas Fair on Sunday 15th!
Titanic Writing
We worked very hard writing stories based on our History work on the Titanic disaster. This fascinated us as a class and we researched carefully to make sure that our stories, while fictional, were also factual. We used safe search engines to discover more about a variety of characters and developed our skills of planning, revising and redrafting when writing. Here is an example of one of our stories which was written by Asher.

Hurling
This half-term 5th and 6th have been benefitting from Hurling Coaching with Liam Gordon.
Science Exploration! |
Mr. Dervan challenged us to a Bake-Off Technical - we had all the ingredients we needed, but no recipe. This meant we had to work together as a team to find the perfect combination of ingredients to make exceptional slime. We were very impressed with our results and discovered that leaving them to heat overnight really helped the slime develop.

Tag Rugby
All the children participated in two Tag Rugby tournaments, first in Ballinasloe R.C. before attending the Connacht event in Corinthians Rugby ground. As part of the competition we represented France. We learnt about our assigned country in class and on each day made a big effort, dressing-up as French as we could possibly be!
