1st & 2nd Class - Ms Fallon

Sports Day

School Tour

We had a wonderful day on our school tour at the Let's Go Camp in Athlone. The children took part in a number of activities including Wrecking Ball, Climbing Wall, Wobbly Ladder, Archery, KMX Carts, Super Slide and also a number of fun team challenges.

Outdoor and Adventure Week
We had great fun last week during our Outdoor and Adventure Week. We planted potatoes and garlic in the garden, had a teddy bear picnic outside in the beautiful sunshine, tried out an obstacle course, took part in a maths trail and on Friday went to the playground.

Having great fun at the mud kitchen during break.

Trip to the Playground
For Engineering Week we made a skier from tin foil and lollipop sticks. We had great fun trying them out!
Enjoying the soccer tournament organised by 5th and 6th Class.

World Book Day
We all really enjoyed World Book Day. Here we are in our lovely costumes!
We also listened to the story "The Day the Crayons Quit".

Enjoying our pancakes on Pancake Tuesday!

We love to dance in 1st and 2nd Class.

Thankful Thursday
On Thursday we spent some time thinking about all the things we are thankful for in our lives. We wrote these down on a piece of card.

Fabric and Fibre Workshop

This week Geraldine from Heritage in Schools came to visit. She talked to the children about how wool was removed from sheep long ago using a shears and also how the people long ago were able to dye wool using a variety of plants. She showed them how to spin wool using a spinning wheel and then the children got to make wristbands by weaving wool.
Look at our beautiful paintings!

First class had great fun playing shop. They had to buy items in the shop, add amounts of money and give the correct change.

Hurling Training
We are really enjoying our hurling training each Tuesday. Thank you to Brendan and Martin for coaching us every week and for all the fun activities they plan for us.

Positive Primary Tuesday

We all wore green on the day. We made buckets and everyone wrote a compliment about us to put into our buckets. We were delighted reading all the nice compliments we received.

Science Week!
We had great fun during Science Week. We made towers from wooden pegs and lollipop sticks. We made boats using a single sheet of paper. We had great fun checking to see is they would float. We also made lava lamps and we carried out an experiment to investigate transportation of water in plants.

Happy Halloween

Fun in the Playground

Climate Action Week

On Wednesday we tuned into Green School's HQ for Storytime with author and illustrator Oisín McGann. Oisín read his book "We Want Our Park Back" and also did a drawing session with the children.
Afterwards we had a discussion in class about the importance of our local playground to us and how we all have to work together to ensure it's a nice place for us all to visit.

2 D Shapes in Maths
We are learning all about 2 D Shapes in 2nd Class. We enjoyed making the shapes using pegs and matchsticks.

Our Teeth
We have been learning all about our teeth in 1st and 2nd class. We identified our incisors, canines, pre-molars and molars. We discovered that our teeth are various sizes and shapes depending on the job they need to do.

Wig Wednesday / Mad Hair Day
We enjoyed a wonderful Wig Wednesday in aid of Hand in Hand. Thank you to the School Council for organising the day.

Best of luck to Galway today from 1st and 2nd class!

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to all the children in 1st and 2nd class and well done to them all for settling back so well.
Homework will begin in October and I will send more details regarding that nearer to the time.

This Friday all children can wear a Galway Jersey (or something maroon if they don't have a jersey, like hair ribbons or a jumper) in anticipation of the Camogie All Ireland between Galway and Cork.
