1st & 2nd Class - Ms Fallon

Fun  Day in 1st and 2nd Class

Virtual Workshop with Marina Levitina

In June 1st and 2nd Class had a virtual workshop with Marina Levitina all about wildflowers. After the workshop we went outside and took photos of some of the wildflowers and trees we have on our school grounds. We identified the wildflowers and trees and made a book using "Book Creator" on our IPads. Thank you to Marina for a most enjoyable workshop.

Virtual Gardening Workshop with Kay Synott

We really enjoyed our workshop with Kay Synott. Before the virtual workshop we planted runner beans, peas, beetroot, salad leaves, radish and spinach seeds. We discovered that the seeds were all different sizes and shapes. We now know the parts of the seed - seed coat, food store, embryo and first leaf. We made sure that the seeds had the necessary requirements of warmth, water and oxygen to germinate. Now that the seeds have produced plants they need light. Our next step is hardening off and finally planting them out in the garden. Kay gave us great advice on how to mind our seeds/plants so that we can produce the best crop possible. Thank you Kay.

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you are all keeping well and enjoyed the Christmas. I am very aware that this is a challenging time for everyone. With this in mind I have set work for the coming week. Each day I will send an announcement with the list of work for that particular day and I will attach videos and activities to support the teaching of the subjects.  This will all be sent on seesaw. An outline of the work for the week will be uploaded at the weekend on the class page on our school website.
While I have suggested in the outline of work uploading particular areas of work to seesaw I want to stress that this is only a suggestion and you should do what is best for your child and family. Everyday is different and it may not be possible some days to complete some or all of the work.
The login details for our zoom meetings scheduled for Monday at 10.00 am (1st class) and 10.30 am (2nd class) will be available on seesaw.

If during the week I can be of any help please don’t hesitate to contact me on the following email address

International Children's Day
What being a child means to us.....

Agri Aware Farm Safety
The children enjoyed the Agri Aware Farm Safety webinars over the past three weeks.
During these webinars the children were learning all about safety around the farm including signs they might see and what they mean, animal behaviours and safety around machinery especially tractors.

Science Week
We had great fun during Science Week. Here are some photos of our Dancing Raisins, Milk Art and Storm in a Glass.

Welcome Back

It was lovely to see all the smiling, happy faces back at school the last two weeks. The children have settled very well back at school and have managed all the new routines with ease.
We had great fun since we got back. Last week we went on a minibeast hunt. We used our new magnifying glasses, gardening shovels and rakes to search for minibeasts. We found lots of interesting creatures in the various habitats around the school. We made beautiful drawings of what we found. We also read a story called Oisín in Tír na nÓg and made still images in drama based on what we read. Below are some photos of what we got up to.
A reminder that homework will begin after midterm break.

If your child attends Ms. Gilmartin and Ms. Slattery their email remains gilmartinslatterycappyns@gmail.com.
Kind regards,
Pauline
