Christmas is coming...

Children in first and second class have been busy creating a Nativity Scene in Art. Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus are pictured here in the stable in Bethlehem on Christmas Day. The star shines brightly to welcome the three wise men from the east. We look forward to our Christmas holidays in Friday the 20th December and the arrival of Santa to all the good children.
It's child's play...

Myself and My Family – When My
Grandparents Were Young
We recently explored the strand unit on 'When My Grandparents Were Young' in history. We looked at some toys our parents and grandparents might have played with. These included dolls, teddy bears, marbles, spinning tops and skipping ropes. They played with their pets and they played games like 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' with their hands. They used self-made wooden objects like the spinning top and bowling pins. In the streets, there weren't many cars so children could play there. Children played leap frog and enjoyed it very much. Both boys and girls played and had great fun. Children used to spin big metal circles with the help of a wooden stick. Some children had a wooden rocking horse. Dressing up was enough to let themselves be carried away by their imagination. Children and farm animals were great friends. Everybody played ring-a-ring-o' roses. Hide and seek was a popular game and hopscotch was an exciting competition and sack race too!!! We learned that we still enjoy lots of these games and toys too...

Clay - Developing Form in Clay
The children had great fun making their superheroes out of clay last week with Miss O' Connor. Click on the photos to enlarge.
Hurling
We are enjoying our hurling training every Tuesday with our coach Kevin Molloy. We train in the Astroturf pitch. We learn new skills. We play matches at the end of training. We have great fun. Click on the images to enlarge.
Autumn Tree Collage
In art this week we used leaves and crayons to make fun leaf prints. We used Autumn colours - green, red, orange and brown. We cut out our leaves and stuck them to our sponge printed background to create a big Autumn Tree. Then we made our leafy hedgehogs using small dry leaves as spikes. The hedgehog will hibernate for the Winter.
Show and Tell
Autumn is here! The children created wonderful artwork inspired by nature and the changing trees around us. Click on the images below to browse through our gallery.
